FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) — Forest Pressnell, who once dressed next to Babe Ruth and pitched in the first night game in Brooklyn's Ebbets Field, has died. He was 94.
Pressnell died Saturday at his home. The cause has not been determined, his family said.
Pressnell spent five seasons in the major leagues beginning in 1938, and compiled a 32-30 record. He pitched with the Brooklyn Dodgers and Chicago Cubs.
During the 1938 season, his locker was next to Ruth, Brooklyn's first base coach.
That season, Pressnell also pitched in the first night game at Ebbets Field against Cincinnati's Johnny Vander Meer, who threw his second consecutive no-hitter.
He left baseball to be closer to his family, his daughter, Patsy Woolley, said.
Presnell is survived by two daughters. His first wife, Ruth, died in 1956. His second wife, Helen, died in 1997.
Services will be Wednesday.
