(Conway-AP) -- Eighty-five year old Omer Lemire is donating a piece of history to an Arkansas university. Lemire, who served in General George Patton's 3rd Army during World War Two, has donated photos he took at concentration camps to the University of Central Arkansas. The public may see Lemire's pictures at Torreyson Library on the UCA campus. Lemire says his visit to a German concentration camp near Munich in May of 1945 was a disturbing experience he would've rather not had, but he believes it's important to remember what happened there. UCA Archives Director Jimmy Bryant says the photos are an invaluable resource because they were provided by someone with firsthand experience. Dachau, in southwest Germany near Munich, was one of several concentration camps operated by the Germans. Many of those sent to the camps were exterminated, while others were forced into hard labor.
