One local election actually took longer to declare a winner than the race for the President of the United States. The new Creek County Sheriff officially took office Tuesday. New sheriff Steve Toliver was sworn in by the judge, who had ordered a new vote after the November election was contested.
The ruling was overturned in the Oklahoma Supreme Court, clearing the way for Toliver to assume the office he won by only 14 votes. "We'll probably do some reorganizing, but I don't intend to get rid of the staff,†Toliver said. “Of course you don't run for office unless you disagree with some of the management issues over there, but you can't blame those on employees."
Outgoing sheriff Larry Fugate was among the spectators who crowded in the courtroom for the swearing in ceremony.
