(Tulsa-AP) -- A Tulsa hospital has obtained a court order allowing a blood transfusion for a five-year-old girl who suffers from a form of cancer.
Brianna Blake's doctor says the girl's parents have refused to consent to the treatment for religious reasons. Doctor Martina Hum says she believes the parents are Jehovah's Witnesses, which forbids blood transfusions based on biblical passages that forbid the eating of blood.
Hum says a transfusion will be required for the girl's survival.
Tulsa County District Judge Thomas Thornburgh says Saint Francis Hospital or The Warren Clinic can administer the transfusion.
A hospital spokesman would not say if the transfusion has taken place.
