LOS ANGELES (AP) — ``Cast Away,'' starring Tom Hanks as a man stranded on an island for four years, was the top film over the four-day holiday weekend, according to studio figures released Tuesday.
The movie, which made its debut last week, took in $39.9 million.
Among other new movies, Nicolas Cage's comic fantasy ``The Family Man'' opened in third place with $15.1 million; Sandra Bullock's beauty-pageant comedy ``Miss Congeniality'' came in at No. 5 with $13.9 million; and ``Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000'' premiered at No. 7 with $8.6 million.
A number of movies opened on Christmas Day, including ``All the Pretty Horses,'' which took in $1.3 million at 1,483 theaters.
