(Norman-AP) -- University of Oklahoma officials say several campus offices are temporarily operating through O-U's mainframe site at Merrick Computing Center.

A fire in an underground tunnel this week burned the university's optic and power cables, shutting off the school's connection with the Internet.

The outage is also affecting the city of Norman's computer system which operates on O-U's server.

Assistant City Manager Scott Martin says the city's interoffice e-mail is operating.

School officials say it could be several days before the system is repaired and again functioning normally.

Meanwhile, officials say a facility is in place for financial aid and admissions offices to work, and that there has been no problem posting grades for students.
