(JAY-AP) -- Delaware County may not be able to afford enough people to run its jail next year.

Lynden Woodruff is the county's sheriff-elect. He says county commissioners slashed his budget so much he won't have the funds necessary to hire jailers.

Woodruff says the state mandates he have three jailers per shift. Now, he only has one per shift.

Commissioners reduced the sheriff's budget from 576-M-million dollars to 530-(M)-million dollars during the last fiscal year.

The county needed extra cash for 9-1-1 reimbursement grants.

Delaware County commissioners and the outgoing sheriff say the new guy has nothing to worry about.
