(New York-AP) -- Florida State's Chris Weinke was expected to be here, Oklahoma's Josh Heupel is a surprise finalist.
The college football season began with Weinke among the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy. Heupel was, at best, an after-thought.
After leading O-U to big wins with outstanding performances against Kansas State, Texas and Nebraska Heupel vaulted to the front of the Heisman race and has stayed there.
The Sooner senior also led Oklahoma to a perfect 12-and-oh season and a shot at the national championship against F-S-U in the Orange Bowl.
The other two finalists are Purdue quarterback Drew Brees (BREEZE) and T-C-U running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
The winner will be announced Saturday night in New York.
