(Tempe, Arizona-AP) -- New Arizona State coach Dirk Koetter will bring seven of his nine assistants, including Brent Guy, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, from Boise State, the Sun Devils announced today.
Under Guy, Boise State led the Big West Conference in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense and turnover margin. Guy is a former linebackers coach at his alma mater, Oklahoma State.
The others who will come to Arizona State with Koetter are offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, defensive back and safeties coach Dan Fidler, quarterbacks coach Mark Helfrich, wide receivers coach Darryl Jackson, defensive line coach Ted Monachino and running backs coach Tom Nordquist.
Grimes played at UTEP when Koetter was the offensive coordinator there.
Fidler is an Arizona State graduate who has been at Boise State for four years. Helfrich was a graduate assistant at Oregon when Koetter was the Ducks' offensive coordinator.
Jackson was on the Arkansas staff until going to Boise State in 1997. Monachino came to Boise State a year ago after being linebackers coach at Southwest Missouri.
