(Oklahoma City-AP) -- In spite of cool, rainy conditions, a record number of Oklahoma voters may turn out at the polls today.

Long lines are reported in some precincts by early voters.

State Election Board Secretary Lance Ward estimates that between one-point-two (m) and one-and-a-half (m) million voters will cast their ballots.

The greatest voter turnout in state history is the more than one (m) million, 450-thousand who voted in the 1992 presidential election. Just over one-point-two (m) million voted in the 1996 presidential election.

Ward says the closeness of the presidential race is a major factor in voter interest in Oklahoma. Republican George W. Bush is expected to easily defeat Democrat Al Gore in Oklahoma, but the race remains very close nationally.

Rain and even snow is forecast for many areas of the state today, and early voters faced temperatures ranging from the mid 20s to upper 30s.
