BEDFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Martha Stewart has completed the purchase of a 153-acre estate in Westchester County, her next stop after fleeing the ``unfriendly neighborhood atmosphere'' of Westport, Conn.
Stewart, whose taste and marketing savvy have made her a conglomerate of domestic goods, closed Friday on the last two parcels needed to reassemble Cantitoe Corners, an estate that dates back to the late 1700s.
Real estate agent Donna Reimer said Stewart paid about $15.6 million for the property and called it ``a wonderful turn of events'' for the Town of Bedford.
``It's quite unusual that an estate is being reassembled, rather than being further subdivided, which is typically what happens to these properties,'' she said.
Stewart's new home includes a 1784 farmhouse, a 1929 Colonial-style Winter House and the 1897 Teamster's Cottage.
Stewart said in April that Westport had changed from a small town where butchers knew their customers' names to a place with a ``more elitist, and much less charming, retail scheme.''
