(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Nursing home residents across the state will receive the first shipment of the long-awaited flu vaccine.

A partial shipment of the vaccines arrived in Oklahoma this week.

State epidemiologist Mike Crutcher says it's a small shipment, but it's enough to cover the population that needs it the most.

He says nursing home residents are more susceptible to the flu because the virus spreads quickly when people are grouped together.

The vaccine has been in short supply across the country because of manufacturing problems. Partial shipments have been arriving in Oklahoma since October.

Crutcher says the next shipment of vaccines is expected to arrive around mid-November.
