(Tahlequah-AP) -- An Adair County man probably won't pick up any more hitchhikers after what happened to him earlier this week.

Authorities say Daniel Herriman was on his way to work when he offered a ride to a man walking along the road.

The man told Herriman that his car was broken down. But authorities say he pulled a gun on Herriman. The man then forced Herriman into the passenger's seat, blindfolded him and took the 60 dollars in his wallet.

Authorities say the man then tied Herriman to a tree. It took Herriman all day Tuesday to free himself. By the time he was free, it was dark and Herriman had become lost in the woods.

When he woke up Wednesday morning, Herriman called the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office. His abandoned car was found by authorities Wednesday afternoon.
