CHARLOTTE (AP) — A third juror was seated Thursday for Rae Carruth's murder trial, and attorneys on both sides expect it will take at least another week to select all 12 jurors.

Three jurors have been chosen since selection began Monday in the trial of Carruth, a former NFL receiver who is charged with masterminding a plot to kill his pregnant girlfriend. He faces the death penalty if convicted of first-degree murder.

The North Carolina Supreme Court, meanwhile, refused to hear the appeal of an earlier ruling by a Superior Court judge to allow Court TV to televise the trial live when opening arguments begin, WBTV in Charlotte reported.

Attorneys for co-defendants Michael Kennedy and Stanley Abraham filed the appeal to block live television coverage because they believed it would prevent them from getting a fair trial.

Carruth, 26, a former wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cherica Adams, 24. She was seven months pregnant with his child when she was shot Nov. 16 as she sat in her car. She died a month later, but the baby boy, named Chancellor, survived.

Prosecutors contend Carruth masterminded the hit because he didn't want to pay child support.

Carruth has maintained his innocence, claiming he was miles away from the shooting and had nothing to do with its planning.
