LOS ANGELES (AP) — Robert De Niro gives his prospective son-in-law a lot of trouble in ``Meet the Parents,'' but not as much trouble as the film gave newcomers at the box office over the weekend.
The comedy starring Ben Stiller as the potential in-law added $21.2 million in North American receipts Friday through Sunday in its second week out. In its opening weekend, ``Meet the Parents'' took in $28.6 million.
``Remember the Titans'' starring Denzel Washington held onto second place with $13.1 million in its third weekend.
The debut of ``Lost Souls'' earned $8 million to finish third. Other newly released films ``The Ladies Man'' and ``The Contender'' were fourth and fifth with $5.43 million and $5.36 million respectively.
The top 20 movies at North American theaters Friday through Sunday, followed by distribution studio, gross, number of theater locations, average receipts per location, total gross and number of weeks in release, as compiled by Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc. and ACNielsen Edi-Facts:
1. ``Meet the Parents,'' Universal, $21.2 million, 2,615 locations, $8,095 average, $58.8 million, two weeks.
2. ``Remember the Titans,'' Disney, $13.1 million, 2,726 locations, $4,790 average, $64.2 million, three weeks.
3. ``Lost Souls,'' New Line, $8 million, 1,970 locations, $4,038 average, $8 million, one week.
