Construction is essentially complete on the project to widen the intersection of East 81st'Street and South Sheridan Road. Each leg of the intersection has four through lanes and left- and right-turn lanes.
All that remains to be completed at the intersection is installation of permanent traffic signals. This will be accomplished in the next few weeks. Current traffic lights are fully functioning, including left-turn arrows.
The City’s contractor for the job, Becco Contractors, finished the work in 23 days less than the 240 days allotted in their contract. They began construction at 81st and Sheridan in April. Cost for construction at 81st and Sheridan was S2.5 million, provided through the 1991 Sales tax and federal funds.
*Becco Contractors is also working on the widening of Sheridan Road between 71st and 81st streets. Crews that had been working on the intersection of 81st and Sheridan will be transferred to the 71st to 81st Street job to help finish it in a timely manner as well.
