Do you have loose change sitting around? There's a new option in town to help you cash in your coins. If you're like most folks, you may have a jar or jars full of coins. You can take the change to your bank, although some require you to roll it up first. Now thereâ€™s an easier way. There's a new machine that counts coins for you. Itâ€™s called Coinstar.

There are 35 Coinstar machines at area Homeland, and Albertson's Stores throughout Tulsa and several surrounding cities. The machine sorts and counts loose change, handling about 600 coins per minute.
To match that number, you would have to wrap 12 rolls of pennies in one minute. The machine then prints a voucher that you can exchange for cash or groceries when you checkout. Coinstar has been in local stores for about 2 weeks. "Since day one that we had it installed, people have just loved it,â€ said Albertsonâ€™s Stores spokesperson and manager Reggie Hardy. â€œThe only thing we ask, as it says in the instructions, is make sure the money is clean, because a buildup of dirt makes the machine stop."

Remember donâ€™t bring in coins with a lot of dirt or gum stuck to them. The machine won't work. You do have to pay for Coinstar's convenience. The company charges 8.9 per cent. As an example, to count $10.00 worth of coins, you would pay an 89 cent fee. The following is a list of CoinStar Centers around northeastern Oklahoma.
