(Washington-AP) -- Tyson Foods executive Archie Schaffer says he wasn't surprised that he received a prison term today. Schaffer was convicted of violating the 1903 Meat Inspection Act by giving an illegal gift to former Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy.

After Schaffer was sentenced to 366 days in prison today in Washington, the Tyson spokesman said he was disappointed but that he did not find the sentence unexpected.

Schaffer's supporters have asked President Clinton to pardon him. Schaffer remained free pending appeal.
