OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Crisis counselors were on hand Saturday at Omaha North High School after the death of a football player who collapsed during a game.
Christopher Benniefield, 16, helped stop a Millard West ball carrier when he collapsed Friday night. He was not breathing when he was taken to a hospital and died, University Hospital officials said. The cause of death was not immediately known.
The counselors were at the school Saturday and would be available Monday to talk with students and staff, a spokeswoman for the Omaha Public School District said.
The game was stopped for about 20 minutes while trainers and later paramedics treated Benniefield. The game resumed, and Millard West won 35-0.
