Consumer 6 has received several phone calls and e-mails from viewers wanting information on a water heater recall. Most of the water heaters in question were manufactured between 1993 through October 1996.
The water heaters have a defective dip tube part that could cause problems for your plumbing. You can get a free replacement if you act before the end of this year.
All Sears Kenmore products, any water heaters with the words "Turbo", "Sta-Kleen", or "Self-Cleaning", water heaters with cold water inlets on the side of the water heater, and water heaters with model numbers with the letter "Z" or letters "NC" at or near the end of the model number are EXCLUDED from the Settlement and do not contain Perfection dip tubes.
To find out if your water heater is on the recall list and to get a replacement part, call toll free 1-800-329-0561. Or go to the dip tube settlement website.
If you have a question for Consumer Six, you can call our tip line at 732-6111 or send an e-mail to dwhite @kotv.com.
