Enid-AP-- The Air Force has confirmed the death of one person in a plane crash this morning about a mile short of the runway at Vance Air Force Base.

Vance officials say the aircraft was doing a routine training mission at the time of the crash.

Vance spokesman Kent Cummins says only the pilot was on board the T-37 aircraft. The pilot's identity hasn't been released.

An Enid radio station says the plane crashed in a plowed field near the runway. Both Air Force and civilian emergency crews responded to the scene.

There is no word yet on whether the plane was taking off or landing when the accident occurred

The area has been sealed off.
