TAHLEQUAH, Okla.-D. Everette ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns Saturday night to lead Northeastern State to a 33-15 win over Missouri Southern in the season opener for both teams.
The Redmen dominated the ground game with 241 net yards rushing to the Lions' 114.
NSU jumped to a 19-3 halftime lead thanks to two of Everette's touchdowns, a 14-yard run in the first quarter and a 65-yard run in the second, and a 31-yard touchdown run by Greg Bobbitt with 5:13 left in the half.
The Lions only first-half score came on Eddie Wright's 35-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Missouri Southern got its passing game in gear in the second half and had 176 net yards passing for the game. NSU managed only 100.
Carlos McNeary threw for two touchdowns for the Lions. McNeary hit Josh Chapman for a 36-yard strike in the third quarter. He hit Rodney McClure on a 39-yard strike with 6:49 left in the game.
