Governor Frank Keating Thursday issued the following statement on the deaths of Officer Jeff Rominger and Trooper Matt Evans:
"This tragic incident should remind us all of the countless sacrifices our law enforcement professionals make each day to protect lives and property. While most Oklahomans were asleep at home, these two officers were on duty in the early morning hours. They were doing their duty, and in this case that duty cost them their lives.
"Cathy and I join all of our Oklahoma neighbors and the outstanding men and women of the Oklahoma City Police Department and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in mourning the loss of Officer Jeff Rominger and Trooper Matt Evans. I have ordered flags lowered to half-staff across our state in their memory. While their service in law enforcement was brief, they set an example for all of us -- an example of service and bravery and devotion to duty.
"I ask all Oklahomans to join me in offering a prayer for the families and fellow law enforcement professionals they leave behind."
