PITTSBURGH (AP) — He was born in a small town, and he's playing smack in the middle of a few big ones.
John Mellencamp made a stop Tuesday in Pittsburgh in a series of low-key, low-tech shows. He previously played in Philadelphia and Boston.
Mellencamp announced the show on his Internet site, and performed with only an accordionist and a fiddler.
``I'm just playing for the people. I don't want the newspapers writing that `He was out promoting his new record,''' he said.
Mellencamp, whose hits include ``Small Town,'' is scheduled to appear Sept. 17 at the Farm Aid 2000 relief concert in Washington.
