The following is a little something to whet your appetites for the upcoming high school football season. After talking to nearly every coach in the Tulsa metro area, I’ve put together a little list of some of the players they’re talking about. It’s sort of a dream team of area high school talent.

A pre-season all-area team is a bit of a risky proposition, but I’m braving it. It’s not meant to be a slight on any of the young men in the area. It’s meant to pay homage to some of the players with the potential to make this upcoming season memorable.

There were a few rules I made for myself before compiling this list.

1. Only two players from any team could make the all-area first team. It would be very easy to pick a half-dozen players from Jenks, Union or Owasso. I thought it would be fairer to smaller school players if I limited each team to two apiece. Even at that, the team is made up of a majority of 6A players. Every effort was made to include all classes of football.

2. Area coaches opinions carried a substantial amount more weight than recruiting services. Coaches provide a perspective that websites or magazines can not.

3. Have fun. These are still kids we’re talking about. I constantly asked myself what 26 players would make the most exciting team.

Now let the debates begin, but take it easy. Have as much fun talking and thinking about this list as I had compiling it. If you have a serious complaint about any of it, I’d be glad to answer any e-mails. My address is listed at the bottom.
