(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Oklahoma Governor Frank Keating is praising Dick Cheney's selection as George W- Bush's running mate. Keating says he doesn't think he was passed over because of Cheney's influential position in the vice presidential selection process.

Bush picked Cheney to head up the process - a three-month search that ended with Cheney being selected. A highly ranked G-O-P official expected Bush to announce today that Cheney will be his v-p pick. The governor says Cheney should be to familiar to Oklahomans because Cheney's head of Halliburton Incorporated. Halliburton has had extensive operations in Oklahoma and is now based in Dallas. Cheney also served as chairman of the fund-raising committee for the Oklahoma City National Memorial. Even though it won't be as vice president, the governor did say he'd be honored to serve in Bush's administration. Keating says any lawyer would honored to serve as a judge or attorney general.
