(Washington-AP) -- Congressman J-C Watts denies that recent meetings he's held with black farmers and presidents of black colleges are designed to woo voters to the Republican Party. But Watts admits the meetings could bring black voters to the G-O-P and he says that's fine with him. He says it is important for Republicans reconsider the way they communicate with black voters.
Oklahoma's Watts is the only black Republican in Congress. Watts has also praised Texas Governor George Bush's appearance Monday before the N-A-A-C-P in Baltimore. Bush told those in attendance that he would bring a different approach to addressing the black community's concerns.
