TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A Tulsa police officer is being recognized by the National Association of Police Organizations for his efforts to make arrests of people who have outstanding warrants.

Officer Steven S. Downie is an honorable mention award winner in the Seventh Annual Top Cops awards. He will be recognized during the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 5.

Sgt. William S. Goree nominated Downie, noting his efforts to locate people with open warrants and his efforts in making arrests in the case of Daniel Williams, a 12-year-old boy who was attacked by two people on March 14, 1999.

In 1999, Downie had 160 felony arrests, served 191 felony arrest warrants, made 99 misdemeanor arrests and served 305 misdemeanor warrants.
