Shooting off fireworks inside the Tulsa city limits can not only be dangerous, it is also illegal and can cost you.

The city passed the law back in 1940 making it against the law to light firecrackers in Tulsa.

Tulsa law enforcement officers say they plan to enforce the ordinance this year.

"They can receive a fine, fine can be as much as 500 dollars. Normally it's about a 60-dollar fine. Or they can also receive 90 days in jail. That certainly depends on circumstances and we will also confiscate the fireworks," says Captain Hubert Rouse, Tulsa Fire Department.

Police say they don't have a big enough staff to patrol neighborhoods, looking for violators but they will be working with the fire department to get the most serious offenders.

They will respond to all fireworks calls.
