(Tulsa-AP) -- Now that this year's U-S Open is over, Tulsa's Southern Hills Country Club is throwing preparations into even higher gear to play host to next year's Open. Southern Hills started getting ready in 1996, after it was awarded the tournament. Club officials have been traveling to each year's Open to learn how others have handled the massive, behind-the-scenes operation that goes into staging a U-S Open. About 40 Tulsa officials observed at California's Pebble Beach this year. Southern Hills general manager Nick Sidorakis says the Tulsans saw how the California club did things and learned from their mistakes. The United States Golf Association essentially rents the course and shares in the revenues from corporate sales with Southern Hills. This will be Southern Hills sixth major championship and third U-S Open.
