State agencies affected by higher gas prices

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- High gas prices are impacting several state agencies, forcing them to cut back some services.

An Oklahoman poll found that agencies are instituting employee driving limits.

One is the state Department of Wildlife Conservation, which six weeks ago implemented a mileage limit of about 1,000 a month on vehicle use.

One place that it's tough to cut back on gas is at the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. O-H-P spokesman Lieutenant Stewart Meyer says the patrol could face as much as a $312,000 increase in fuel costs next year.

Meyer says gas is mission-critical for the patrol. Meyer says the patrol still needs to be out there making the roads as safe as possible.

And the Department of Transportation goes through 3.3 million gallons of gasoline a year.
