(Washington-AP) -- U-S Representative J-C Watts will be holding the first summit in Washington for presidents of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
Watts organized the event that will bring together more than 70H-B-C-U presidents.
Watts says he wants the summit to be an opportunity for the presidents to communicate and learn from each other.
The presidents will meet with representatives of six major corporations, House committee chairs and other members.
The group will also meet with members of the House Leadership,including House Majority Leader Dick Armey and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.
Watts says the object is to discuss the role that the Republican House can play in expanding educational opportunities for minority students around the nation.
There is about 500,000 students enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
