Murder Trial Moves On Without Lewis

ATLANTA (AP) â€” Prosecutors in the trial of two men charged in a post-Super Bowl slaying showed jurors some grisly photographs Wednesday of chest wounds suffered by the two victims.

The courtroom â€” usually packed when NFL star Ray Lewis was a defendant in the case â€” was nearly empty Wednesday except for family members of the victims, Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar.

Lewis, a Baltimore Ravens linebacker, pleaded guilty Monday to misdemeanor obstruction of justice and testified Tuesday against his two former co-defendants, Joseph Sweeting of Miami and Reginald Oakley of Baltimore. Lewis was not in court Wednesday.

The Fulton County medical examiner testified Wednesday about the photos, which were taken during an autopsy. Prosecutors also called an FBI agent and an Atlanta police officer as witnesses.

District Attorney Paul Howard expected to wrap up his case later Wednesday.

Sweeting and Oakley still face charges of murder, felony murder and aggravated assault in the deaths of Baker and Lollar, who were stabbed during a street brawl Jan. 31 after a post-Super Bowl party in Atlanta's Buckhead entertainment district.

Lewis testified Tuesday that he saw Sweeting and Oakley, friends who were partying with him that night, fight with a group of men that included Baker and Lollar. But he said the brawl was over so quickly he couldn't tell if Sweeting or Oakley stabbed the victims.

The killers ``might be on trial and might not be on trial,'' said Lewis, who received 12 months probation for giving police a misleading statement and telling his companions to keep quiet about the fight.
