(Nowata-AP) -- Two men have been arrested for allegedly devising a plot to kill a drug investigator in Nowata County who had previously helped arrest them.

Investigator Eddie Virden says he agreed to meet Thomas Measles and Jack Edward Harvey on a rural county road. Virden says the men told him they wanted to talk, which Virden says isn't unusual with people he has arrested.

But three hours before the meeting, Virden got an urgent call from the Nowata County Sheriff's Office, saying Measles and Harvey planned to kill him.

When Measles and Harvey showed up at the meeting site, a special operations team and sniper were in place and Virden was there with three other officers.

Authorities found a pistol and a nightstick in the vehicle the two men were in.

Both are charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
