(Detroit-AP) -- The trash collectors didn't know a woman was hiding in the garbage compactor when they started it up -- and the
woman was crushed to death.

Detroit police say the woman was a suspected shoplifter. She'd tried to hide in the compactor after fleeing security guards at a Value Village store.

The crew had been on a break when the woman apparently jumped inside the compactor. They didn't know she was inside when they restarted it.
