(Buffalo, New York-AP) -- Police say a suburban Buffalo, New York, woman abandoned her one-year-old daughter so she could pursue her dream to become a carnival worker.

Melissa Healy is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

She was arrested yesterday at a carnival in south Buffalo.

Investigators say the 21-year-old mother left her child with friends Friday, but failed to return.

The next day, the friends say they found her at the carnival. When she allegedly refused to take custody of her child, they notified police.
