(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Leaders of the Oklahoma Legislature say they'll try to override Governor Keating's veto of the car tag reform bill.

Democrat House Speaker Loyd Benson of Frederick says Keating has ignored the public in the car tag debate. Keating's veto marked the second straight year that the Republican governor has rejected car tag reform.

Benson and Senate President Pro Tempore Stratton Taylor says they'll attempt the veto override sometime today. Lawmakers need 68 votes in the House and 36 in the Senate to override Keating's veto. There are 61 Democrats in the House and 33 in the Senate.

If the override attempt fails, Benson and Taylor say they're prepared to put a referendum on car tag reform on a statewide ballot for a vote of the people.
