Muldrow man to be charged with murder of toddler

(Muldrow-AP) -- Sequoyah County prosecutors say they'll charge a Muldrow man today with first-degree murder for the beating death of his two-month-old daughter.

Assistant District Attorney Darrel Dowty says the decision to charge Ronald Ashley Junior was made after looking at a state medical examiner's report on the infant's injuries.

Dowty says blunt trauma was the cause of death. The baby died Friday in a Tulsa hospital.

Dowty wouldn't comment whether the mother, Tina Ashley, would be charged also. He says the investigation is continuing.

Prosecutors say they'll ask that Ashley continue to be held without bail once the murder charge is filed.
