OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma motorists soon will be able to toss the new Sacagawea dollar coins into the toll booth automatic coin machines later this year.
The Oklahoma Transportation Authority voted Thursday to spend $473,828 to upgrade 99 machines. The repairs will be finished in six months.
With the changes, the machines will last seven years. Replacing the machines would have cost up to $3.7 million.
The authority officials agreed to spend $33.4 million to upgrade existing computerized toll equipment and install new toll equipment on turnpike extensions.
