(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A former Oklahoma City zookeeper who was mauled by a Malayan tapir is suing over safety and medical issues.
Lisa Morehead was seriously injured in the attack in November 1998. She was preparing a morning meal for a female tapir and was attacked while opening a sliding door to the exhibit.
The animal dragged Morehead into the pen and repeatedly attacked her. Morehead's arm eventually was torn off.
Morehead's lawsuit maintains the inadequate training of zoo workers and delays in medical treatment contributed to her surgeons' inability to reattach her arm.
A city investigative report released earlier this month found that panic and confusion hampered Morehead's rescue.
