(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Governor Keating has backed off his recommended eight percent cut in the budget of the state Department of Veterans Affairs.
The cut would have totaled about one-point-65 million dollars.
Keating' announcement today comes one day before a scheduled rally at the Capitol by the Oklahoma Veterans Council. The council had planned to protest the proposed cuts.
Keating says veterans can stage their rally knowing that the state supports them now and will continue to do so in the future.
