Close to 14,000 students named Oklahoma Scholars

(Oklahoma City-AP) -- The Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education have named close to 14,000 students from across the state as Oklahoma Scholars 2000.
Oklahoma Scholars 2000 is a recognition program sponsored through a partnership between the State Regents and A-C-TIn corporated. Students have to score above the 95th percentile in any one or more of the content areas on the EXPLORE or PLAN tests.
The program is part of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. GEAR UP is a federal program designed to better prepare students for college.
The U-S Department of Education awarded Oklahoma a five-year grant for more than $20 million to implement GEAR UP activities across the state.
