(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsa police Chief Ron Palmer says he wants his officers to be prepared in case there is a riot similar to what happened during Seattle demonstrations at the World Trade Organization.
Palmer appeared before Tulsa city councilors on the Finance Committee yesterday to answer questions about his pending request to purchase riot gear for officers.
Palmer wants to use a portion of funds generated from asset forfeitures to purchase 200 helmets, shields, chest protectors, shin guards, batons and ponchos.
The full council has delayed action on the item twice.
Palmer says the Tulsa Police Department is not ready for civil disturbances.
