TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- Tulsa leads the state in getting census forms returned with a 63 percent return rate, officials said.
Statewide, about 59 percent of Oklahomans have returned their forms, said Titus Frenchman, who was recently named manager of the Tulsa census office.
Tulsa has equaled the 1990 mail-in response rate, but Frenchman said the goal is to have a 69 percent response rate.
The national return rate was at 62 percent Thursday. The census is mandated every 10 years to determine state representation in the U.S. House of Representatives. The responses also help determine more than $1 trillion in federal spending over the next decade.
