(Tulsa-AP) -- The Oklahoma Tribal Assistance Program may be forced to close after missing out on two U-S Department of Labor grants.

The program has trained American Indians for the job market for a quarter of a century.

The grants were worth more than $614,000 dollars. They had been the agency's main source of funding.

A new Indian employment agency received the funds for northeastern Oklahoma this year.

Oklahoma Tribal Assistance has sponsored G-E-D training, skills-training classes at community colleges and career development courses since 1974. This is the first year it had to compete for grants because it was the only service provider in Tulsa.

Labor Department officials say Oklahoma Tribal Assistance has 30 days to appeal after receiving notice of grant funding.
