UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Islanders goalie Kevin Weekes was taken to the hospital with a possible head injury after a collision left him lying on the ice for 15 minutes Friday during New York's game against Toronto.
Weekes attempted to kick away a crossing pass with 4:23 left in the second period, when Maple Leafs forward Darcy Tucker tripped over Islanders defenseman Ian Herbers' skate and fell into the goalie.
It appeared that Tucker's knee hit Weekes in the head, and the goalie collapsed. Weekes was immobilized and taken off on a stretcher. He waved a hand as he left the ice.
Herbers was given an interference penalty on the play.
Reserve goalie Stephen Valiquette replaced Weekes on the ice.
