Street improvement areas which will affect Tulsa traffic include:
**NEW: 81ST AND SHERIDAN INTERSECTION: Work has begun to relocate water lines and construct detours for use during the project. The intersection will be reconstructed with concrete and widened to four lanes each direction, with left- and right-turn lanes. Completion is estimated by the end of 2000.
**Monday, April 10: RIVERSIDE DRIVE, HOUSTON AVENUE TO SOUTHWEST BOULEVARD: Traffic will be reduced to northbound only and will remain one-way for the duration of the project.
**Tuesday or Wednesday, April 11 or 12: EAST 101ST STREET SOUTH WILL BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC BETWEEN GARNETT ROAD AND 129TH EAST AVENUE from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for about five days. Crews for the Oklahoma Transportation Authority are constructing the Broken Arrow South Loop of the Creek Turnpike.
EAST 52ND STREET NORTH BETWEEN KENOSHA AND NORFOLK AVENUES is closed for about 10 more days for street reconstruction. Motorists may use the newly opened 54th Street North for access to Peoria Avenue.
THE WESTBOUND LANE OF EAST 46TH STREET SOUTH IS CLOSED TO TRAFFIC BETWEEN MINGO ROAD AND 86TH EAST AVENUE for 5 to 7 weeks. Crews have begun repairs to 46th Street at this location. Traffic will remain one-way eastbound for the duration of this construction project - about 55 days, weather permitting.
EAST 76TH STREET SOUTH IS CLOSED AT SHERIDAN ROAD for about 100 days as part of construction to widen SHERIDAN ROAD to five lanes between 71ST AND 81ST STREETS. Nearby residents should use either 74th Street or 78th Street for access to Sheridan. Also, a detour has been built to direct traffic 500 feet to the west of Sheridan Road near the Minshall Stormwater Detention facility. Completion of this project is estimated for November.
71ST STREET AND RIVERSIDE PARKWAY: The center westbound lane on 71st Street is closed near Riverside, as well as the outside westbound lane on the 71st Street bridge over the Arkansas River. Construction of the bridge deck for the pedestrian/bicycle trail is complete, and crews are installing a chain-link fence and lighting for the trail. All lanes of traffic at the intersection are expected to be open in about a month. Additional work on the trails leading up to the bridge will continue through the summer.
THE NORTHBOUND CURB LANE OF SOUTH HARVARD AVENUE IS CLOSED AT FOURTH STREET for two to three weeks for a water line tie-in associated with street construction.
EAST 116TH STREET SOUTH is closed between Hudson and Fulton avenues for two weeks. Construction crews are installing a storm sewer near the Frenchman’s Creek subdivision. A detour is marked for traffic between Sheridan Road and Yale Avenue.
61ST STREET, MEMORIAL DRIVE TO SHERIDAN ROAD: Two lanes of traffic are open on 61st Street between 76th East Avenue and South Sheridan Road. All four lanes will be opened in April, after crews finish building a retaining wall. 61st Street is being widened to five lanes (center left-turn lane) between Memorial Drive and Sheridan Road.
41ST STREET BRIDGE OVER THE BROKEN ARROW EXPRESSWAY is closed through August for construction of a new bridge. Through traffic is blocked on 41st Street between Memorial Drive and Mingo Road.
HARVARD AVENUE, 31ST TO 41ST STREETS: The southbound curb lane is closed during work hours for construction of curb, gutter and sidewalks. This site is the first work area of a multiple-location street rehabilitation contract.
