BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (AP) -- Police are continuing their investigation into an accident in which a bus carrying 28 middle school students home from school struck and killed a man.
The bus was making a left turn about 3:15 p.m. Monday when it struck a man who stepped into the crosswalk, said Jay Harness, Bartlesville police public information officer.
The name of the victim was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
The school bus driver went into shock and was taken to the hospital for treatment, school community relations supervisor Ken Dolezal said. Her name was not immediately available.
"Our heart goes out to the person who died as a result of this terrible incident," Dolezal said. "It's your worst nightmare for anyone to be hurt or die in an accident. It's one of the worst things that can happen to anyone."
None of the children on the bus was injured.
No citations were issued, although police were continuing their investigation, Harness said.
