(Oklahoma City-AP) -- A group of state veterans is planning to rally at the state Capitol next month to protest a proposed eight percent budget cut at the state's Office of Veterans Affairs.
Governor Keating's budget calls for $1.65 million to be trimmed from the veterans' office budget, while other agencies are facing much smaller cuts. The cuts would make room for proposed raises for teachers and state employees.
Retired Army General Clyde Spence says the proposal is a slap in the face to men and women who served their country.
He says the budget cuts would leave the state's six veteran centers unable to properly care for the more than 1,300 aging veterans in the state.
