(Muskogee-AP) -- A Stilwell man pleaded guilty in federal court today in the fatal shooting of a man on Indian land.
Thirty-six-year-old Michael Ray Chewey pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and the use of a firearm to commit a crime in the February fourth death of Michael Linville, in the Mulberry Hollow area of Adair County.
Chewey said after a night of drinking, he used a rifle to try to force the 32-year-old Linville to leave a house. He then pulled the trigger several times as he and Linville struggled over the gun.
Authorities say a plea agreement recommends 18 years in prison and five years of supervised released.
